Modest Molly is a modest clothing boutique. So, why modest?
First of all, we believe that modesty is beautiful and it’s making a comeback. More than ever women are wearing modest fashions and clothing.
Second, it’s part of our belief system. We are LDS or members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. We believe that our bodies are, as it says in 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 “the temple of God” and the “Spirit of God dwelleth” in us. As such we believe that our bodies are sacred and that by dressing modestly we can appropriately show how special our bodies are.
In addition, we feel that clothing and what we wear has a large impact on what we feel about ourselves. Modesty makes us feel good. It allows us to look great while feeling less self-conscious. And it’s been shown that women who wear less clothing tend to have self-objectification issues and worry about body shaming. Getting rid of that self-objectification through modesty allows us to fully utilize our awareness towards our happiness, progress, and livelihood.
I’ve heard some discuss the reasoning behind modesty as being a way to prevent men from looking at women inappropriately. We don’t feel this is a fair reason for modesty. Although someone who wears immodest clothing might get additional looks here and there, much of this should still be placed upon the shoulders of the man looking. In other words, it’s not a woman’s responsibility to make sure that the man isn’t looking. It’s more about worrying less about our bodies, treating them as a temple of God, and reaching our full potential.
So, we wear modest clothing and have our daughters wear it as well. And we feel as beautiful and comfortable in our clothing as ever. We’re certainly not the only ones. Modesty is making a comeback and we’re glad to be a part of it!
